Chapter 6 of your textbook includes a discussion of the music of a couple of women composers. Although women had composed music for centuries (remember our discussion of the music of Hildegard of Bingen), history hasn’t always remembered their music. After giving a brief biographical sketch and description of the musical education of one woman composer from the 19th century, describe one of her compositions. You might write about Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel, Clara Schumann, Amy Beach, or another composer. Your short paper should contain, at a minimum, 3 paragraphs Paragraph 1: identification of a composer and a brief biography Paragraph 2: discussion of one of her compositions Paragraph 3: other reflections on women in music
